Me, My, Mine
Daniel 9:19 (Originally written 12-17-10) “O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.” The easy thing to forget, at least for me, is that it’s all about Him. “Lord, don’t delay,”…

Too Light
Isaiah 49:6 (Originally written 12-6-2010) “It is too light a thing that you should be my servantto raise up the tribes of Jacoband to bring back the preserved of Israel;I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Too light a thing. How often…

Getting Justice
Isaiah 59:7-8 (Originally written 12-13-2010) Your iniquities have made a separationbetween you and your God,and your sins have hidden his face from youso that he does not hear. The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their paths;they have made their roads crooked;no one who treads on them knows peace. Therefore…

Why?
Isaiah 55:2 (Originally written 12-11-2010) Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Good question. Why? Tis the season to ignore this verse. To spend our money on things we know won’t satisfy. We did it last year, we’re doing it this year,…

Control
Isaiah 52:3 (Originally written 12-8-2010) For thus says the LORD: “You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.” This begins an amazing stretch of Scripture, running from here, through “how beautiful are the feet” (Isaiah 52:7) to the incredible description of Jesus’ sufferings and ultimate glorification (Is 53) and the advance…

Glory
Ezekiel 44:4 (Originally written 12-6-10) Then he brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple, and I looked, and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple of the LORD. And I fell on my face. Awesome. Wonderful. Scary. Glorious. What is the presence of God like? If…

Budget Fears
Proverbs 28:1 (Written 11-29-10) The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. Boldness takes many forms. Last night I got the preliminary budget. And it scared me. Twenty-percent higher than last year. Scary stuff. But I know the team has prayed earnestly about it. I know God has…

Isaiah 46:1-4 (Written 12-1-2010) Bel bows down; Nebo stoops;their idols are on beasts and livestock;these things you carry are borneas burdens on weary beasts. They stoop; they bow down together;they cannot save the burden, but themselves go into captivity. “Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by…
For years, I’ve produced brief devotional videos called Jumpstarts that I published in various outlets. (You can find them here, as well as the odd podcast.) The root of those videos was daily Bible journals I’ve been doing for decades.
I recently decided to take a hiatus from the videos, and instead publish excerpts from those journals here.
As you’ll soon see, they tend to be brief, normally consisting of just one main idea. They may also be a little rough. I’m not going to do much editing. You’ll get them just the way they came out of my brain, years, days, or months ago.
