  • No Warning

Isaiah 41:25-29 (Written 11-24-10) I stirred up one from the north, and he has come,    from the rising of the sun, and he shall call upon my name; he shall trample on rulers as on mortar,    as the potter treads clay. Who declared it from the beginning, that we might know,    and…

  • The Correct Answer

Ezekiel 36:3 (Written 11-27-10) He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord GOD, you know.” In case you were unaware, the correct answer is No. No, dry bones cannot live again. In saying “O Lord God, you know,” Ezekiel was showing extreme faith. Faith that can move…

  • Eagles

Isaiah 40:31 (Written 11-23-2010) They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;    they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;    they shall walk and not faint. This great verse is even greater in context, because, having heard it all my Christian life, I’d never…

  • Rebranding

“Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬ (Written 11-11-23) God likes to flip things around, to take something that signifies one thing and make it point to something totally different. You know that meal you had to eat in a hurry because you were being chased out of Egypt? Yeah,…

  • Envy

Proverbs 22:17-18 (written 11-22-10) 17 Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day. 18 Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Watched the American Music Awards. Lots of very rich people. Lots of smiles. Easy to envy. Of course, the…

  • Pure and Gracious

Proverbs 21:11 (Written 11-20-2010) He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. Two things and I need to have both: purity of heart and gracious speech. Gracious speech without a pure heart is hypocrisy and conniving. Pure heart without gracious speech can’t reach people. But…

Isaiah 31:1-3 (Written 11-17-10) 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help    and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many    and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel    or consult the LORD! The Egyptians are…

  • Hating Evil?

Proverbs 8:13 (Written 11/7/2010) The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. Ezekiel 18:30 Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. Hatred of evil. I think that’s one of my problems: I don’t hate evil. I…

For years, I’ve produced brief devotional videos called Jumpstarts that I published in various outlets. (You can find them here, as well as the odd podcast.) The root of those videos was daily Bible journals I’ve been doing for decades.

I recently decided to take a hiatus from the videos, and instead publish excerpts from those journals here.

As you’ll soon see, they tend to be brief, normally consisting of just one main idea. They may also be a little rough. I’m not going to do much editing. You’ll get them just the way they came out of my brain, years, days, or months ago.
