  • Fortress

Psalm 8:2 (1-20-11) You have taught children and infantsto tell of your strength, silencing your enemiesand all who oppose you. Worship as fortress. The imagery is strong. Mighty soldiers attacking a position, the foe and the avenger. But they are thwarted. Not with mightier soldiers or stronger warriors. But with infants, toddlers, young children. And their…

  • Obedience

Luke 17:14 (1/17/11) When [Jesus] saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. As they went. There was no miracle prior to the obedience. And the obedience was an act of faith. What would they have done if they’d gotten to the priest and still been…

  • Success?

Genesis 39:23 (Originally written 1-16-11) The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. Which is, if you think about it, a confusing statement. Twice in this chapter, it says God gave Joseph success in whatever he did. The first…

When he goes to Egypt and fails to build an altar, a worship…

  • Everybody

John 1:4 (Originally written 12-19-10) In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. All mankind. Including <Name withheld>. A nonbelieving friend I had online “discussions” with. Including “LousyCanuck”. An atheist on Twitter who loved to try to offend me. Including, well, everybody. God brings hard cases into my life. Atheists,…

For years, I’ve produced brief devotional videos called Jumpstarts that I published in various outlets. (You can find them here, as well as the odd podcast.) The root of those videos was daily Bible journals I’ve been doing for decades.

I recently decided to take a hiatus from the videos, and instead publish excerpts from those journals here.

As you’ll soon see, they tend to be brief, normally consisting of just one main idea. They may also be a little rough. I’m not going to do much editing. You’ll get them just the way they came out of my brain, years, days, or months ago.
