Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
in our time make them known;
in wrath remember mercy.
Habakkuk 3:2 NIV (12-12-13)
Two huge components in that prayer. First is the broad concept. Those amazing things you’ve done in the past, God? Do them again. And that brings amazing thoughts to mind, be it rescuing a nation or seeing 5000 come to Christ in one service.
Then he clarifies with the second component. The amazing deed requested is truly amazing to the point of being almost unbelievable. “God, in your wrath, remember mercy.” In other words, do the amazing deed of mercifully drawing back to yourself this nation which has walked away from you.
Sounds like a prayer I need faith enough to pray.
[Father, though our nation deserves wrath, show us your incredible mercy and draw us back to you.]
