Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, … So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley. … So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord. (Genesis 13:10, 11, 18 NIV, 1-18-14)
How do you make decisions? For Lot, the question was, Where will life be easiest? Where can I maximize my potential? Where lie the greatest benefits?
But for Abraham, the questions were: Where can I meet God? Where have I already encountered God? Where can I worship? (Note, this was only Abe’s first encounter with God at Mamre. There were a few more to come.)
And when I have a decision? Remember, Lot’s choices led to disaster. Abraham’s to incredible blessing.
But I own the choice.
[Father, help me choose to be with you, more than the path of seemingly easy “blessing”.]
