Maybe Don’t Read This One

Note: This was written in June of 2013.

All this is because of Jacob’s transgression, because of the sins of the people of Israel. What is Jacob’s transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah’s high place? Is it not Jerusalem? (Micah 1:5 NIV, 6-6-13)

Samaria and Jerusalem were the capitols of the divided kingdom. Is it possible this warning stems from their capitols being more important to them than their God? Did nationalism take the place of true religion, or did they merge them into some sort of godless (or less God) combo?

I wonder if American Christianity may have fallen down that same rabbit hole. And what should we be doing about it?

Actually, the answer to that last question is easy. Render to Caesar what is Ceasar’s and to God what is His. Which is everything.

There is only one throne that matters, and the chair in the Oval Office isn’t it.

There is only one infallible document, and it’s not the Constitution.

There is only one true power, and it’s not our military.

The better we understand those distinctions, the better off we’ll be.

Getting that straight could go a long way toward America coming to God.

[Father, bring our nation to you, and help us never settle for an unholy mix of patriotism and pseudo-faith.]
