This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and to Jerusalem:
“Break up your unplowed ground
and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
circumcise your hearts,
(Jeremiah 4:3, 4 NIV, 2-8-13)

Doing our part. When I talk about doing God’s will there is usually an emphasis on external modification, adjusting what I do and don’t do, or divine internal modifications, while God transforms my inner being.

But this is different. It is focused on internal modifications, ones that we work ourselves. Softening our resistance (unplowed ground), eliminating thought sins (thorns), taking radical actions in our inner person to prepare ourselves for God’s transformation.

They are important actions, but too often ones we don’t even attempt.
