“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! ” (Jeremiah 7:21 NIV, 11-12-12)
They were doing God’s will–sort of.
There were certain sacrifices the people were supposed to burn almost all of, others they burned very little–and ate the rest. So, if they happened to treat the one like the other, well they were still technically serving God, but they also got more to eat.
It’s called negotiating a compromise. Doing enough of God’s will to avoid guilt, but not all God is asking.
Are there any areas in my life where I am living that way?
[Father, show me all my areas of compromise and help me to obey you fully.]
