“If you, Israel, will return,
then return to me,”
declares the Lord.
“If you put your detestable idols out of my sight
and no longer go astray, and if in a truthful, just and righteous way
you swear, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’
then the nations will invoke blessings by him
and in him they will boast.” (Jeremiah 4:1, 2 NIV, 11-2-12)
Jeremiah is to be a prophet to the nations (1:5) and Israel is to be an example.
That’s why our actions are so crucial. They don’t just impact us, they impact those who might believe because of us.
And how should we behave? First, put God first and make that apparent.
And then, live “in a truthful, just and righteous way.” honesty, integrity (truthful), defending the less fortunate and promoting fairness (just), and staying morally clean (righteous). That is a potent combo, one to which the world has no answer.
[Father, help me to live in a truthful, just and righteous way, not just for me, but for those who are watching.]
