Henry Blackaby, author and major influence on my spiritual development, died recently. This is one of the things I learned from him.
John 5:16-19
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. (John 5:19 NIV, 11-1-11)
Of course, I’m better than that. I can do things without the Father.
Ok, not really. I just think I can. But the reality is I can do nothing of value without Him.
So maybe, I should focus more on connecting with what the Father is doing and joining Him in His work. Staying connected with Him, as difficult as that sometimes is, and being part of His team instead of hoping He’ll join mine.
Otherwise, I’ll spend a lot of time being busy but doing nothing.
[Father, show me what you are doing and let me join you.]
