Hell’s Titanic

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5 NIV, 8-25-11)

Why did he say ‘Has not overcome it?’ Why not ‘Will never overcome it’?

My guess is because darkness easily got its best shot while Jesus was on earth. And when Jesus said “It is finished,” one of the things that was finished was darkness’s last, best shot at extinguishing the Light.

Once the crucifixion happened, the Resurrection was a guarantee. After the resurrection, death was defeated and darkness was out of weapons. All the rest is rearranging deck chairs on Hell’s Titanic.

And if darkness has already been defeated by Jesus, what is it that has meso stressed?

[Father, help me to truly understand that because Your Son was not defeated by darkness, I can’t be either. Teach me to live in your victory.]
