Discouraging

“Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”

Numbers 13:2 (2-23-11)

That verse always depresses me.

Sure, there’s nothing in the verse itself, it’s just I know what’s coming next. Ten of the twelve are going to bring a discouraging report. Those ten are going to sway the entire nation. And instead of walking into God’s glorious promise, fear is going to lead them to walking aimlessly in the desert for forty years.

Any fear in front of me? Any promise I’m scared to claim? Any giants between us and God’s promises?

Well, we always have the choice to walk away, to surrender to fear and doubt. To give up on faith and depend on what we can see.

To walk away from God’s glorious promises.

[Father, give me the courage to trust You more than I fear giants in the land.]
