The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart;
Psalm 15:2 NIV (2-6-11)
Speaks the truth from their heart. Interestingly, ESV translation says “in their heart” or something like that. Somewhat opposite, somewhat not. From the heart means what we say to others; in the heart means what we say to ourselves. Either way, it means honesty that flows clear through. Honest about himself; honest about others. And honest enough to speak that truth.
Which is where I have a problem. Don’t like to confront. Don’t like to say things that might cause problems or hurt feelings (or make people dislike me). Don’t like to face all the truth about myself. Which leads to unresolved tensions without and painful tension within.
Maybe honesty would be a better policy.
[Father, help me to think and speak truth, always, focusing more on honesty that what people think.]
