Asking

Genesis 24:27 (Originally written 1-9-11

saying, “Praise be to the lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the lord has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.”

God’s hand is all over this chapter.

Before he starts, the servant prays, initially for guidance, then a BIG prayer. “Lead me to the right one and I’ll know she’s the right one because she’ll volunteer to water my camels.” And camels drink a lot.

And God came through. Why?

Because the servant was an amazing man of God? Not necessarily.

Because his prayers were so powerful? Not from reading them.

Because he had such amazing faith? Did you see his doubting questions at the beginning?

God came through because the man was in line with God’s plan. He wasn’t acting as Abraham’s servant at this point. He was carrying out God’s plan to bless the earth through Abraham. To give the blessing God first had to give Isaac a wife.

And the big prayer was answered because 1) the man had faith enough to ask God for something big and 2) because the prayer was perfectly in line with God’s will and God’s plan.

[Father, forgive me for doubting. Show me Your will and Your plan, help me to pray in line with it, and then glorify Yourself by Your answer and the results You provide.]
