Me, My, Mine

Daniel 9:19 (Originally written 12-17-10)

“O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”

The easy thing to forget, at least for me, is that it’s all about Him.

“Lord, don’t delay,” Daniel says. Not because we’re struggling. Not because we want/need Him to act. But because it’s for His sake, for His glory, for His people and His city, the people and city who provide His reputation.

I, of course, start my prayers with me. My needs, my struggles, my sake, even, embarrassingly, my reputation.

[Father, forgive me. Help me to focus more and more and more on You and Your glory and less and less and less on my petty desires and successes and even pains. Glorify Yourself through my life whatever that entails–and teach me to mean the last part of the prayer more and more.]
