Eagles

Isaiah 40:31 (Written 11-23-2010)

They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;

   they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary;

   they shall walk and not faint.

This great verse is even greater in context, because, having heard it all my Christian life, I’d never noticed the direction it comes from.

See, I’d think it was coming from the human side. How weak we are; how much we need His strength.

Wrong answer.

Isaiah 40:18ff is about God. How big and amazing He is. The One who names the stars and unrolls the heavens. The One who sits so far above us that we appear as grasshoppers to Him. And He’s the One who strengthens us. The One who lifts us up.

The One who is so far above us that giving us strength is no challenge, but rather the fact that He is willing to do so is an amazing privilege.

[Father, thank You for Your greatness and for the fact that You’re the One who lifts us up when we  are weak. When I am weak. Help me to always find my strength in You.]
